PHONEBANKING

A fellow Canadian is busy organizing some phone banking in the Greater Vancouver area. The following is a message from a fellow Obama-ite who’s wanting to organize phone banking in September. If you’re interested please contact us and we’ll put you in touch

We’re in the final stretches of the campaign, and our success will be dependent on all of us. The Obama campaign has identified phone banking as a priority this will likely happen in a two-phased approach:

Phase I - for the immediate next few weeks, we need to reach out to US and Dual citizens living in Canada to direct them to votefromabroad.org to request their absentee ballot.

Phase II will involve actual campaign canvassing; more info on that to come.

We are proposing to have several phone banking ‘centers’ where volunteers can meet for a designated period of time over the next few week-ends. We are asking for people in various areas of the lower mainland to host these gatherings, and perhaps provide some snacks and transit assistance if needed.

Since most households have only one landline, we are suggesting volunteers with laptops consider downloading Skype to make more lines available. If you do this, you would also need to take out a subscription to Skype (it’s only free Skype-to-Skype) The subscription is a very nominal US$3/month, and can be done by the month. This will enable you to call both landline and cell numbers.

Going SOUTH

If you’d like to help go to the US and assist on the front lines (e.g., door knock, canvass, or do anything else) please send us the following:

  • Name
  • Contact phone number
  • Preferred states to volunteer (preferrably one of the swing states such as Ohio, Florida, Nevada etc)
  • A short background on your interests/skills/experience

Thank you so much for your interest and help!
