Sea of Blue takes over the US with Barack Obama at the helm

Files under Uncategorized | Posted by admin

November 4, 2008 marked a historic day for many citizens in America and around the world as Barack Obama, the first African-American, was officially declared the winner of the US presidential election. It has been an exciting time for us at Canadians For Obama - but this victory wouldn’t have happened without the dedication and support of all of you.

It’s been such a long journey for Canadians for Obama, but it has been worth every moment of it. We received calls from our volunteers across Canada and the States letting us know about how they were able to help out. One of the co-founders, Braeden Caley, who was in Washington DC and Centreville, Virginia informed me throughout the day how his Canadian team got out the vote on the grounds.

We’d like to express our sincerest gratitude for all that you’ve done thus far, whether it be phoning our neighbours to the South reminding them where to vote, driving long distances and dealing with American border guards just so that we could volunteer for the campaign, or just calling our American friends and family - this was all the reason for change.

People all around the world have worked hard for Obama, and Obama has and will continue to work hard for them. It’s time for change, and time that people have a voice!

Thanks again for all your hard work! It’s because of you all this has happened!

Barack Obama’s Message sent prior to his victory speech:

I’m about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.

We just made history.

And I don’t want you to forget how we did it.

You made history every single day during this campaign — every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it’s time for change.

I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign.

We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I’ll be in touch soon about what comes next.

But I want to be very clear about one thing…

All of this happened because of you.

Thank you,

Barack

And here’s a great quote sent in from one our members based in Canada, Barinder Singh, who touches on one reasons why Obama is great for Americans and for the rest of the world:

Tonight Barack Obama won the presidential election in the United States.

Why does that make today great?
Well because we are going to get a step closer towards abolishing racism in the world. We are going to start anew and invest more in renewable energy resources. Your children and mine will find it easier to become the prime minister of Canada if they so chose. We are going to make the world a friendlier place for the minorities around the world. I am excited about today because after today, if I chose to have children, I will be bringing them into a world full of hope - not war or racism or religionists. I know his win is not going to abolish all the injustice that cripple our society but it will work towards a cure. A preventative measure so to speak. When children of all colors and religions see a man leading the world who is a mixture of all of them, they will grow up to be more accepting and caring human beings and that’s what we need more of. We need love and care in this century more so than ever. We need love. I am excited about today and I hope so are you.

We’ll be posting coverage from all our US Election watching parties across the country shortly, please stay tuned. In the meantime if you have a story to share please email us we’d love to hear from you.
