Change.gov

Posted by: Ajay Puri

Wow! We had to post change.gov as this transition site for Obama/Biden to take office in the US is youthful, dynamic, interactive and fresh. Obama/Biden are not in office yet, but already it seems things are changing. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Time to celebrate!

Dear comrades,

We did it!!! THANK YOU MY FELLOW CANADIANS for all your hard work in campaigning both here in Canada and in the US. With your help we’ve now elected the first Afro-American president of the US (the 8 yrs of oppression/repression of the American people and the world is over!)

Canadians For Obama buttons & t-shirts will be restocked soon (currently sold out!), and we’ll shortly have ‘Stories from the Road’, downloadable Obama posters, bookmarks and other memorabilia right here.

Thanks again for being a part of this people’s movement!

In solidarity,

Ajay Puri, Braeden Caley

Sea of Blue takes over the US with Barack Obama at the helm

Files under Uncategorized | 1 Comment

November 4, 2008 marked a historic day for many citizens in America and around the world as Barack Obama, the first African-American, was officially declared the winner of the US presidential election. It has been an exciting time for us at Canadians For Obama - but this victory wouldn’t have happened without the dedication and support of all of you.

It’s been such a long journey for Canadians for Obama, but it has been worth every moment of it. We received calls from our volunteers across Canada and the States letting us know about how they were able to help out. One of the co-founders, Braeden Caley, who was in Washington DC and Centreville, Virginia informed me throughout the day how his Canadian team got out the vote on the grounds.

We’d like to express our sincerest gratitude for all that you’ve done thus far, whether it be phoning our neighbours to the South reminding them where to vote, driving long distances and dealing with American border guards just so that we could volunteer for the campaign, or just calling our American friends and family - this was all the reason for change.

The Final Stretch! Phonebank for Obama

Thank you everyone for your continued support and assistance for the sea of change that is occurring to our Southern neighbours. Can you believe we’re in the home stretch here, with the finish line in sight? Naturally, we’re all following the news and know that the numbers are looking very good, but this no time to slow down. We need to continue working at full speed to ensure the vote that we registered and ID’d actually makes it to the polls!

Please log on to your Barack Obama page and make the last minute calls to voters to ensure they vote or have decided to support Obama. Skype is a great tool for this:

Anyone across Canada interested in phone calling either at home or organizing a place to meet please  email us and we can help you get set up.

Phone Call Stories on the Road

Ajay Puri - Vancouver, BC

On November 2, Ajay Puri opened his home for phonebanking and had 7 volunteers come out. Over the 6 hours of phone we reached approx. 500 numbers and about 150 callers. Want more information on how to phone - email him . It would be ideal if you had Skype installed on your laptop computer, but there are other options.

Ray Sharma - Toronto, ON

He’s an Information Security Advisor with a bank in Canada and started following Obama’s bid for the presidency in 2007.  Since he couldn’t vote (not a US citizen) he felt the next best thing would be to support Obama’s candidacy by volunteering for his campaign.  This past Saturday (November 1st) he drove to Buffalo, NY to the campaign headquarters and called approx. 200 people as part of a phonebanking effort.  He must say it was exhilarating being able to contact voters and asking for their vote for Obama/Biden.  He’s continued making calls Monday and Election Day hoping that his calling makes a difference.

Interesting Story -
"I spoke to an elderly woman on the phone while I was phone-banking and when I asked her If I would count on her vote for Obama/Biden she said that if she had to crawl to the polls she would go out and cast her ballot for Obama and make it count ‘all the way.’  That was heartwarming."

Send in your stories Whether it is phone banking or going to the US.

More stories to come soon from across Canada as we had Canadians calling from Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver Island, Vancouver and Winnipeg.

Thanks once again everyone- let’s win this election together!

NOTE: Canadians can volunteer and assist Obama in his campaign we just can’t donate unless we have green cards or are dual citizens. Check out the FEC website.
